Hagen House in Salem

Originally built in 1816, John Hagen, a tailor who had worked as a missionary to the “Northern Indians,” made several additions to this house on Salt Street in 1828. One of Hagen’s sons, Francis Hagen, was the composer of the well-known Christmas hymn “Morning Star.” The house was restored in 1957 to its 1828 appearance.
